Villa Melina

Villa Melina is a boutique homestay as well as the home of an international family. It has a five star Qualmark rating which puts it on par with the best hotels and luxury lodges. Our clients wished to create a comfortable and elegant environment for themselves and for guests. The client brief called for a design that was a fusion of New Zealand, Swiss and Italian architecture.

The homestay is located in a spectacular coastal location in Seatoun, that at times is a severe marine environment. A kinetic sculpture by artist Kon Dimopoulos stands tall as a sentinel in the garden defining the edge of the property and the sea, much like a navigational beacon.

The project includes the homestay that is centred on a courtyard complete with an exterior pizza oven and barbeque. The homestay has a range of living and dining areas, a commercial style kitchen, library, office and six bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. In addition there is a separate two bedroom guest house that is located beside the lap pool, sauna and golf driving range.

The homestay has passive solar design, it absorbs heat from the sun through the windows into tiled floors and polished concrete block walls. It then reradiates the heat to the interior into the evening.
