Ohariu Valley house
Located on a large rural block close to Wellington this house attempts to balance the diverse lifestyle of its owners.
Formed around a central courtyard and pool the house is easily divided into smaller spaces to accommodate various friends, family and activities. Living spaces and bedrooms all open to the exterior giving a strong link to the land and the ability to use exterior space regardless of the weather.
The architecture is intentionally restrained opting for a look of permanence and solidity within its expansive landscape. This is then balanced and softened with careful use of timber soffits, pergolas and landscaping. Ceiling heights throughout the house vary from the low timber ceiling in the entry to the four metre glazed ceiling in the gallery, creating interesting changes in space and light as you move through the house.
This house has a unique rural flavour creating a strong expression in its diverse landscape.
